Its about the going rate. Check out craigslist and buy a used one for $25- $50 and then take it to turbo and tractor in phoenix and have it gone through. They usually charge $100 -$150 to go through it and then you know its freash and ready to go, and they stand behind it.

Nice - my brother has an '83 SR% 4WD truck with a 22r....that is one good motor.

My baja would have had a turbo with it for an extra $500. But I figured I didn't know much about the condition, etc. and the extra 500 went a long way toward making the car more to my liking.

But someday, I will not rule out a turbo. Easy HP.

Those are chinese turbos and are good for parts for building a real turbo. The bearings /thrust bearings are not very good. The turbine is not of the best material either. If It was me and I was looking for a good turbo that would pull well on a 2500cc motot I would look at a stock turbo for a 2.3 83-86 turbocoupes and svo And 85-89 merkur xr4ti this turbo will handle 300 hp. Should mkae full boost around 2800 rpm on a 22r maybe a little sooner if you use a .48 exhaust housing. If ou are looking for a quick spooling turbo and dont need more than 240hp the IHI from a 87-88 ford turbocoupe would be a good choice, it should have full boost around 1800-2000 rpm and will have better throttle response than the bigger t-3s. with the chinese turbo you would probably see full boost around 3500-4000. I also notice you have a pretty good quality header. You could just run an elbow off of your current header with a t-3 style flange. It should work just fine, might not look the best.

are the t-bird turbos readily available at junk yards ?
what other options do i have for a exhaust manifold other than scabbing on to my existing header ?
i did read somewhere about making one out of pipe, not tubing....

But Its easy enough to make it yourself if you geta header flange, a t-3 flange and some weld els from a plumming shop.
