When looking at buying a BAJA I realize there're may things to look at for. But one of many things I don't know is if VW's come with an optional positraction transmissions or if there is a BAJA upgrade kits you guys put on your BUGs to make them positraction; or if there is even such a thing. If you guys do install a positraction trany, how do you tell a positraction trany from a regular trany?

Direct this question to Azbaja member Donsbusbox. He is a VW transmission rebuilder. I believe most VW transmission mods are internal, and difficult to identify without opening them up for a peek. BUT I COULD BE WRONG- it's happened before once or twice. Laughing

You do not use or need locker, Posi etc. in a VW. The problem is with the light front end the car will push and make it very hard to turn. Evan with big fat tires and semi scinny tires up front like my car, it will push in a turn and in the dirt it's evan more of a problem.

They are available but are not used for off roading. With practice the turning brake can be used as a limited slip. Quaffee makes a torgue sensing diff. but is is for on road use. If only ARB would nake an air locker for a VW transaxle then we would have something worthwhile for off roading.

So you guys are saying. One it isn't necessary and it is more a pain in the arse to drive. Two the turning brake serves the purpose better. Good to know

Yes. It is very very rare that you will have one of the back tires off the ground with all the weight on the back of the car.

If you get to a point were you loose traction in one tire you can tap the turning brake and slow it down.
