Is the camber & caster adjustable on your VW? I do not think that my '62 has any such adjustments. I used to bend the J-arms on my Honda Odyssey (four wheel off road version) to get proper camber and then set toe toe, but caster was not adjustable.

As far as what to set the toe at, are you running radials? If so, I would set the toe at zero or even a hair toe out. If running bias ply, set it at 1/16" toe in.

I will check my manual to see if they have recommended specs for the front end.

BTW, I have over 25 years experience in front end alignments, frame straightening (heavy trucks), brakes & springs. Also, my wife's uncle has the equipment from his front end/frame shop for sale. (Freeway Frame & Axle) If anyone wants to get into the business, he has all of the equipment for sale to get you going.

caster is the hard one to adjust, but camber is just adding som wasers etc. This is for a link pin car.

Ball joint cars I think your just stuck with toe and thats it.

Yep BJ is as easy as a turn of the wrench to adjust camber. Caster you just add the shims behind your beam

Do not use the shims behind the beam, it's ok for a street car but in a baja you will bend you beam. It makes a bad stress point.

Thanks, Guys! My education of VW's continues!!!

Now, if you want to know the alignment specs of a 1964 GTO, 1957 Chevy Belair, 1966 Wildcat GS, or other American made cars, I can help you out. I never aligned many VW's in the past...pretty evident, huh?

This is true in theory, and I agree, But I have done this and know many others who have as well as 2 local shops here in town who frequently advocate the shims' usage, without having actually heard of or seen it happen...
