Granted mine is a 2.3 ford, I have never had a problem running the car in the rain from all out down pours to just a drizzle. I do have a K&N air filter on the car.

Lots of people do. It cuts down on the dirt too.

I have the cheaper off road filter with the aluminium cover over mine. Water is only going to get in if the air filter gets under water. Only moisture gets in from the rain. I have been in summer monsoon rain storms coming back from Flagstaff and Show Low with the rain so hard it was bouncing a couple of feet off the pavement. I could not see to drive but it still ran.

hmm, yeah I don't have the aluminum cover. But I did make a little cover for it. I'll post some pics tommorow. i basically took a 68 decklid with no vents in it, cut it so it sits right over the carb and stops at the exhaust, and slapped a chrome Volkswagen emblem on seems to work great! I drove in the rain for the first time yesterday and it ran without issues. I was also thinkin of getting one of the covers that they use on jetski's. they basically keep any water from getting in the carb

The partial engine cover is a good idea. If the filter is like the one Rickman first had or the cheap Empi 3-4" chrome street ones it still should ge a hat and rubber seal on the wing nut.

Nice job on the deck lid. I would still make a top for the air filter water will roll off the top and into the filter with it sitting outside, not running is when it is most likely to happen.

Thats the style you should fab to cover the one you have or add a little piece downward to cover the part of the air filter that is visable. You have the chrome one well covered with the deck lid but a good driving rain in the direction of the engine could let water in. Like I said I doubt any water would get in while driving just while parked.

good info here..
i was gonna get a cone air filter but i didnt think of the water side of things. i guess now ill prolly get one of these.
while were on the subject. (hope im not jacking the thread)
what else should be done to keep water out of the engine??
Hibbard just says "watertight connections at the cap, plugs, and coil."
does anyone have pictures of what they've done to keep the engine dry??
i would love to see how you guys have things set up...
