On tyhr proseatz car the cable was installed on the drivers side, but I belive the car had a dual carb setup..

The engine I gothas dual carbs with the throttle arm positioned near hole in fan shroud, but for some reason the hole is too low or the arnm is too short (I believe the housing is in correctly...)

could I -
1- move the throttle arm down the shaft toward the drivers side (would it work there or must it be in middle)
2-make and extended throttle arm at my work (and verify it will have full travel before I make one).

Please guys- this is holding everything up-- does it HAVE to be in the middle? throttle 'bar' rotates between two points off of carbs... is front and back direction, not transformed into side-to-side action. If I need to keep it in center let me know.. the arm is capable of being postioned anywhere on the bar but want to know if it will work anywhere on bar...

this is problem area

this pic shows that side mount aint gonna happen..

this is in general (some people were asking for a progress report)

Is there a common reason for this? (Fan shroud was on this engine before but it looks like it sits high even now).. and recommendations, like fabricating arm?

It does not have to be in the middle.

Option 3: drill another hole in the fan shroud? You wouldn't be the first guy I've seen with two throttle cable holes in the shroud.

Option 4: drill another hole in the air cleaner stand-off brackets, thread it and lower your cross-bar.

Just tossing out additional options you might not have thought of. Who was it that was saying that 90% of VW stuff you buy is something to start with? Most everything needs to be modified to make it work properly!

I ran the the linkage all the way over to the side because i was running a center mount fan shroud. But you must make sure there is no slop of any kind between the arms and the hex bar, if there is you will end up giving throttle to one carb before the other. so make sure you use lock tight and tighten everything good.
