Cut a hold in the skid plate, I have done that on my Baja. If you think the hold is too big. Build a small block of plate that will bolt over the hole. I just left my 2 holes open. (1 for the oil and 1 for the trans) both are about 1" to 2" The oil hole is an ovel. 2.3 for drains out the side and the ovel will makes sure nothing gets on the skid plate.

Did the first "official" oil/filter change. Went with full synthetic oil.
Quickly discovered what a pita it was having a skid plate. I couldn't get the hardware loose to drop it so I had to let the oil drain onto the skid plate. What a mess. Got me thinking about alternate ways to mount and to use stainless hardware...

Father forgive me because it has been many months since my last visit, But while I was lost and not seeing the light here at AZ Baja, I ran into a perfect new bug shell to finish my baja!!! (Yippee!!!) I have since finished the pan and all the suspension and now I have just finished the cutting on the new body (to make it a Baja) and I just finished welding in my little tiny patch panel on the new shell!! I can now begin the paint prep and soon be spraying color by next week. I will post pics soon enough!! Amen.

Yep Az. I thought about cutting a hole but feared that I would catch a stick or some thing. The block off plate sounds like a good idea.
Thanks!

as long as your hole isn't gigantic, it should be fine. i have either an 1 3/4" or 2" hole in mine and never had a problem, and there have been some pretty good scrapes and dents in my skid plate

My rail was disappointed The Rolls/Queen Valley run fizzled out, so I took it and my grandson out for another all day ride. We left the camera, GPS and food at home so all you get is narration. At 5.30 am we were at The Rolls rolling hard for about an hour. The sand was still wet from the rain. Next was down Four Peaks Rd to Upper Sycamore Rd. About 1/2 way down is a nasty trail up a steep hill we took that but instead of turning left and running the trail that parallels SR 87 down to Lower Sycamore we turned right and ran the trail that comes out below where Upper and Lower Sycamore is divided. There is a stripped Bronco upside down in the wash. Played around at Lower for a while and ran the Lower Road back to the trail we did not ride earlier back to Upper Sycamore Rd and up and over Four Peaks Rd to Pumkin Center where it was raining and SR 71 across Tonto Creek. About halfway over Four Peaks we gave some fuel to a quad owner with an empty tank. Half of Four Peaks Rd was covered in clouds, quite a sight. It aslo was cold. It was weird being in the clouds on terra firma. The creek had a lot of water in it and no trucks were crossing so we did not either. We ran up to the Cliff Dwellings and back to Reno Pass Rd and ran it for a while but it was real muddy and raining. Went back over Four Peaks Rd running down some obsure trails. One had great promise but with large erosion ditches running up steep long hills we other vehicle just in case. Next there was traffic jam a MC hit a Jeep. The MC rider broke and arm wrist and fractured his pelvis. MCSO was already there. One sheriff was a nurse another a EMT. We even had a MCSO canine there. Qiute a talanted professional group. The MCSO has a FJ Cruiser for an off road EMT vehicle. The MC rider was well season with existing pins in his body so he took it all in stride. He took a short ride in the back of an MCSO truck to an awaiting helicopter. Every one hanging out put the MC in a pick up and took it down the trail to the riders girl friend/ wife who was riding a MC with him at the time. She rode back down and brought thier truck. As we were riding out of Four Peaks a couple of double a-arm rails were coming in. We ran back to 87 up to FR 11 play around in the washes and ran 11 back up to Four Peaks Rd. Saw the a arm rails again. Around 4 pm we met the sherriff with the dog we were both refeuling in Fountain Hills but he was headed back and we were headed home. Easily another 250 plus mile day. Good thing is nothing broke and the rain washed most of the mud off. Did lose the top to the cooler.

Was on my way up to see DonT in the heat of the afternoon and it seemed the perfect time to replace the accelerator cable on the side of Arizona Ave.

Think I'll do the clutch cable once it warms up some Very Happy

Sunday I went with AZ 4x4 Off Road Recovery up 288 to get a 3/4 ton 4x4 Ford with a bad transmission. After that we hit Pinto Valley Rd and Oak Flats.
The Ford is for sale $800. It looked like it was maintained. Might be a good deal as a rebuilt C-6 transmission ir fairly cheap.

It was really cool. We left at 3am and I was cold for the first 80 miles or so, as we were 10 minutes behind the rain from AJ all the way to the Young Rd (FR288).

Ran Schnebly Hill on Saturday for the first time. Great views. Slow going up to the Vista and after that it's 2nd and 3rd gear the rest of the way. Thought I had cured the overheating problem but I ran hot all the way down the 15 mile downhill run on I-17.

It's all the little things getting ready for paint. Been trying to get all the loose ends finished. Repaired a Hood Dzus fastener, welded in some gussets. Started designing the wiring diagram.
