I'm still flipping coins over mounting the shifter on top of the tunnel. I'm trying to figure out what to about the parking brake.

Very nice Hyperwrx. I have been wondering what your plans were for that thing since you posted your original thread.

Thanks Rybob. I am new to this baja thing and am kinda just making it up as I go along. All the great pictures here give me ideas.

Just purchased a new starter this morning I need to install and a few breather filters in the vent system.

That almost tells me that you have an adjustment issue with the rear. Maybe a bad soft line

Soft lines are only 2 years old and are braided. I've had this issue from day one with new parts so I don't "think" it's an adjustment issue. I have the rear brakes set where the wheel turns less than 1 revolution freely. That rev is with 31" tires.
Perhaps that needs to be tighter?

I can tell you that I have had the hardest time with brakes on these VW's. I have been doing brakes for 25 yrs. If you read the threads about brakes you will see that I am not alone. It shouldn't be any different but it is, For me anyways.

There should be NO NEED for an RPV for the rear brakes on a Bug with disc fronts.

The proper adjustment procedure for VW drum brakes is to:
- Make sure the hand brake is fully released
- tighten them until the wheel cannot be turned by hand.
- Both adjuster stars for each wheel MUST be adjusted one at a time, not just one adjuster then quit.
- then back them off until they rotate but drag enough to stop the rotation in less than a turn. I personally do not allow the tire to "spin" to less than a revolution, I set them a little tighter.

Adjustment of the drum brakes should be done about every 3,000 miles.

The hand brake cables should be adjusted so that after adjusting the brake shoes, the hand brake lever is about the top of the bottom seat cushion when the rear wheels are locked.

I originally cut out so much of the door frame where the hinges attached that it was flexing and cracking the metal. So I cut it out and added some 3/16 plate steel to mount the doors to. Should be alot stronger

In order to get the tires somewhat flat instead of looking like a jacked up swingaxle, I am cutting off the trailing arm mounts and repositioning them.

Here is how it lines up with the tire straight up and down

Almost done cutting and grinding!

Spent the week at OBX (Outer Banks) NC play'n on the beach with the baja. Got stuck twice. Real dry and loose sand this trip. Got pulled out by my bro-in-law first time, second time I used a method I learned from Baja Bugs and Buggies. Jacked it up and filled in under the rears.
Today after returning home yesterday, we washed and vac'd her out. On the return trip the pin on the fuel pump walked out consequently stalling gas flow. WTF? Rolling Eyes Embarassed Easy fix, just gotta ding the shaft to prevent that issue again.

Made some lower front suspension stiffeners and relocated the master brake cylinder to the fire wall. Pictures tomorrow after the paint dries and I get them installed.
