Installed a CB, is there a designated AZBaja channel?

Changed out the oil for 20w-50. Hopefully that brings the oil pressure up enough.

Everything on it appears good enough to go Sat. I'll fire it up and run down for some gas to top it off today and see if there's anything else that needs addressed.

We used to use FRS 13 or CB 13 when we went out years ago. 3 was the backup if 13 was in use. That was years ago. Not sure what people use today.

installed a new steering box today, nice and tight now, drives like a whole new car!

also checked all the nuts and bolts, etc. on the front end. made a new billet shift knob as well after my pool ball knob stripped out.

Out on I 10 we had the power feed to the brake lite switch came off and short to ground. At first I thought a plastic bag was melting on the header but as I slowed down the front harness was smoking. Must of been one of the few circuits I forgot to supply with a fuseable link. The power was taken from the 30 feed on the head light switch, opps. Fortunately no other damage occured.

Perrib, I expect you know this, but for the great unwashed, or not knowing about wiring cars folks at least...
That circuit should take power from an "always on" source. In the stock wire harness, that is where power comes into the headlight switch from the battery, which is before power goes to the ignition switch. But from the headlight switch, it should go straight to the fuse block and through a fuse no greater than 8 amp. Then down to the master cylinder brake light switch. From there, the power goes to the back of the car and the brake lights themselves, then to ground so it returns to the battery ground completing the circuit.

I prefer to use insulated terminals so if they fall off or anything falls on them, the odds of a short are reduced. My friend went mud whomping in his '62 Baja years ago and shorted out the brake light wiring with mud. He had just bought the car and it had the blown fuse wrapped with foil. A stereo amp which had been removed just before the sale had been jury rigged to that fuse. The wire for the amp had been cut off and was dangling in there with an unprotected end. He was lucky that had not shorted out already as it was a large gauge wire.

An unfused circuit is dangerous. It is even worse in my rail as the battery box cover is not easy to remove. This is where an easily accessed battery swith could save the day.
You nailed it I forgot to protect the individual circuit. The main 30 supply to the dash is protected by a fuse link but since other consumers were on it never melted. This would be like the choke wire grounding but as long as the engine was running the black wire would get hot and eventually melt the innition switch contacts. You can bet it is getting its own protection today. I'll even shrink wrap insulated connectors so the heat shrink sticks out past the edge of the open end of the connector for a bit more insurance.

Well, lets see - what was done this week?

Found a crack on the frame. Temp fix for now. Will redo in the summer as a summer project. No worries; already fixed and back ready to go.

Also scored a Mendy 4E to swap out from the 002. That should be a nice upgrade in the tranny department.





Ouch - hate when that happens. Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture.

Should look nice once it is installed



Packed up and on its way back to AZ for a quick stop at Bill's.

On our last cruise I started hearing a weird low harmonic noise what I thought was on the passenger side. Today I finally tore into it only to discover it was actually the drivers side rear drum was loose. It appears I didn't get the axle nut as tight as it should be Embarassed and consequently wore out the splines. So now I need a drum. Dang! The weather is unseasonably beautiful and warm now and the Baja is down. Crying or Very sad

Prepped to drop a W100 in the previous owners 1641 build that had a flat lobe on #3 intake....packed the Bughia full of parts for the move to the U*D*R*S&D which is my new BIG GARAGE. Smile Time to upgrade if one can!!!!
Ill be polishing th intake, changing out spring and doing a three angle job on the heads....plus shim it a touch to drop the comression a touch for cheap pump gas. Should come out rather sweet cause she is already kinds of fun!!!

Pulled the engine and transmission. I was missing both studs on the front trans mount, on stud brke off that held the engine to transaxle and from the stress the upper mid mount attaching bolt welded to the frame tore out at 7:30 am in traffic leaving me stuck in fourth gear. I'm finishing up should be driving home in an hour. This time I gusseted the mount like I was going to do four years ago. One of thoses Illgetroundtoit moments pushed to long.

picked up a set of wheels for the front that match the 5 spoke chrome rears on my car. a little bit of elbow grease and some polishing and they should look like new by weeks end

Drove around today, got lost trying to find Karls, note to self, not Dr, when it's supposed to be Ave. Smile LOL

They've got a pretty good off the shelf selection of Empi and the guy there didn't try to sell me into anything. I'll be going back after I make a list. Smile

Just sprayed it down with Simple green to get the offroad dirt off it. I'm thinking I'm going to try changing my air corrector jets around and verify timing to get my idle up enough that it isn't causing the low oil pressure.

Installed a 1 1/2 quart sump on the tub buggy.
And I'm working on clearancing a case to accept a 78 stroke crank.

Well, changed the jets around tonight (Probably not the greatest neighbor lol:) and didn't really notice much difference. I cranked the idle screw as far as it can go and then backed off the timing to get the idle to come up to about 1K. I'll see how it starts tomorrow and where idle lands when it gets hot. (Timing was initially set at 30Deg at about 3K RPM, sounded like it was going to blow) I'm curious where the timing ended up being and will put a light on it tomorrow.

I'm thinking this carb is not going to be perfect.
