Hay Off-Roaders!!!

AVC Annual 400 miler Its that time of year again!!! May 18 -20th .... Yee Haw
Yes it is about 400 miles. The roads are easy and I know of one person that pulls a trailer.

This is a 2 day trip that goes up to the rim over Four Peaks and back down to Roosevelt Lake and then back up the other side to the rim to out of car camp and howl at the moon.
Sunday the travel to Strawberry or breakfast and the head down into camp verde and back up to come back into Phoenix through Seven Springs and Cave creek rd.

This is the intended route if there is no major issues with the cars. There are lots of jump off spots if you only want to come out for the day.

Most of the roads are dirt but we must use some streets to get to another part of the run so Street legal vehicles are a must.

First meet up point. Saturday morning
Four peaks rd UTV loading corral departing at 08:00am 33.666414, -111.509164 Don't be Late. You will be left behind and have to catch up to the group.
After this trip I will update the map locations and our groups info to the spots with google pins for ease of use.

Here is the gps coordinates given to me by the AVC.

If you have a UHF radio we will be on Ch 3 because so of the newer radios are having trouble with the Privacy codes.

Help!!!

Anyone know if the strawberry lodge is still open or is there a place to get Breakfast???
Does anyone know if Fossil Creek rd is open yet???

Info From the AVC Crew
The route:
Four Peaks road. We leave at 8am sharp. (33.666414, -111.509164)

Rt 188 (33.788556, -111.265389)

Butcher Hook Gas Station to get gas, ice, rest rooms. (33.826749, -111.295204)

NF 409 rd. (33.867645, -111.314999)

Re group everyone. NF 71rd. (33.872670, -111.314429)

Make a left on FR 236. (33.882007, -111.145804)

Make a right on FR 609. (33.951806, -111.041791)

Re group everyone. make left on SR 288. (33.941599, -110.964485)

stop in Young for gas, ice, food, tire service, what ever.( 34.101594, -110.949294)

CHECK POINT #1 Chamberlain Trail (34.150954, -110.916640) if we go to Haigler Creek we save about 3hrs and if we can camp there if needed then to 260. or take rt 512 to 260.

Most of the time if we camp at Haigler Creek we don't run FR 300 we just take 260 to Strawberry for breakfast at the Strawberry lodge (34.407766, -111.493380)

WE ARE BACK IN PINES!!

Run FR 300 (34.305218, -110.898287) almost to rt 87, look for a good camp spot. (34.455430, -111.389657)

if we cant take Fossil Creek rd to Camp Verde (34.505129, -111.757759) we take 260 over to Camp Verde (34.457058, -111.439161)

stop in Camp Verde for gas, ice, food, ect.

off to Oasis rd (34.555473, -111.872155)

to FR 136 (34.551437, -111.875447) somewhere on this road the fokes that bring lunch eat lunch (re group everyone)

it kinda gets weird.. most of the roads are named 68d... we take the best one South to Dugas rd (34.368150, -111.983584)

Dugas rd to FR 68 (34.348380, -111.951897)

FR68 to FR 269 (34.222684, -111.980354)

FR 269 to FR 24 South (34.154628, -111.823119)

FR24 to Seven Springs (33.963428, -111.858040)

Re group and Photo shoot at Seven Springs ..

Just wondering how your car and the trailer did this weekend? I have been kicking around a trailer idea myself for a couple of years.make a good base camp for parts supplies water gas ect. I have a shortened vw floor plan with title ( manx) that I could use the rear suspension

Hay Off-Roaders!!!

Its that time of year again for The AVC 400miler May 18th - 19th

I have been working on both cars to get them ready,,, this year was my year for break downs.. after I broke my wheel off on the Hassassampa river run it has been a nightmare of repairs ... but after two weekends of test/day runs my rail is back to 100% and ready for the next adventure.. My Baja has been a lot of reworks of things I did not like.. I finely got the parts for my winch after breaking it pulling a truck out of a ditch.. ... Yes I can winch a full size truck out ... I will put that knowledge in the box of things I will never do again. I don't know why I offered to help I must have been bored or stupid... even the guy in the stuck truck gave me the look of "Your kidding me". I took over an hour,,, but inch by inch I pulled him out. Back to the Baja. I just need about an hour to finish up a few things and she will be back to 100%... YES! Keep your phones on my Baja friends. I have been working on the Baja's camping configuration I think I am almost there I started buying up new camping gear here and there.. I don't want to move the camping stuff from the Rail to the Baja every time I want camp with the my Baja. For the past few years I have thinking about it.. I think I am ready for an overnighter somewhere...

For those of you that have never been on the AVC 400 miler this is a relatively easy event most of the dirt roads are extremely mild( stock Baja approved ) the issue is this is the AVC 400 miler is a very long event, we do almost 400 miles on dirt. Stopping for gas, food and ice along the way.. This is not a race this is held on public roads and you will need to obey ALL the traffic laws. Drive within your means and your vehicle's capability. If this is your first time on this event we have the day runners that follow us over for peaks the pumpkin Center and then back in the same day. We have the folks that can't wait to get out there and usually drive somewhere up for peaks and On Friday night and campout. If you want to join the Friday night campers call Kenny. The biggest issue on this event is loose nuts and bolts and flat tires due to under inflation.
What I usually do is I have a rescue plan I usually back in my trailer and put the drawbar on the truck so all my friend needs to do is back up to my trailer and come and get me I've done this for the past 20 years and I've never had to have anyone come and fetch me. but it's nice to know it's there if I need it. All the roads are 2 Wheel Drive accessible in one way or another..

Our club's number one rule is "no one gets left behind"!!! If you get lost STOP!! we have a designated tail gunner that is the last car in this event, They will be happy to point you the right way.

F.Y.I - I am going back to Flagstaff over Memorial Day weekend May 25th - 27th.. drop me a note of you are thinking of going.
