In a few months I am going to tow my baja about 2000 miles. I planned on buying a tow bar. Is there a right or wrong way to tow a vehicle like this. Does anything need to be done to the car?

Keep it out of gear. Use safety chains. Make sure everything is tight!!!

1) use grade 8 bolts , flat washers , and nylox (nylon lock nut) nuts instead of the pin on the tow bar.

2) hook up a set of tow lights (magnetic cheap at walmart or harbor frieght tools)

3) safety chains

4) padlock for safety chains when you park. keeps thieves from gettin vw easily.

5) e brake off

6) car in NEUTRAL

7) unlock steering lock (may have to have key in ignition)

Cool disconnect the battery (especially if key is in ignition )

good luck Wink

I've seen some tie the shifter to the side to prevent it from accidentally popping in to gear.

Do they make the freewheeling wheel adapters for VW's?
For a lack of better discription, they look like Lazy Susans.
