I will start. It was a pretty nice day still have snow on the ground in places. I removed my front beam and cut off the shock towers and the suspension stops. Torn down all components. Cleaned up the beam in preperation for welding on new towers and installing adjusters. It all came apart alot easier than I thought it would. Hope it goes back the same. Razz Razz Razz

Well,it was kinda nice out today,so when I got home I wandered over to the neighbers house and watched/helped a little with his mazda auto to stick swap(Help - distracting him with talk mostly),then wandered back over to the house.Set the card table up in the garage and away assorted parts and tools from Harbor Freight and parts store to get ready for the carb swap on the VW.
When brought the aftermarket 34PICT intake center back over to the neighbor to show him(And complain about how I had to take the die grinder to crappy forging).
He suggested I clean up the throat to get rid of the flashing there too.
So I put it back into the garage and will pick up some sanding things for the die grinder to clean up the throat tommorow.
And maybe see if I can make the epoxy dissaper so I can take it apart and smooth out the mating surfaces inside where the pipes mate up with the aluminum, and re-epoxy the pipes back in STRAIGHTER than they are now.
Sooo Today, jabber with the neighbor and set up card table...YAY ME!

I am excited to say that I got my baja running. I have a 72 super beetle that I have learned to tinker on over the past year, but my heart has always been set on getting a baja.

About a month ago, I traded an old pickup truck for a 72 standard. The bug had dents in the fenders and the brake pedal assembly was frozen. The engine needed a tune as well. It had been sitting for quite some time.

Last week, I installed a used bug eye kit that Bugzylla sold me, and rear fenders that VIN70 sold me, and yanked out the engine. This past Saturday, I pulled the known good engine in my Super beetle and installed it in the baja. I changed out the exhaust and pulley. I swapped the rear shocks as well, putting coil overs on the rear of the baja.

Yesterday, I swapped carbs because I couldn't get my 34pict3 to idle. I put a 30/31 on with an adaptor that I had. Set the timing and hooked up the headlights, turn signals and mounted one of the factory tail lights. I am still waiting on pigtails from VIN70, or I would have hooked up the recessed lights in the rear fenders. Swapped pedal assemblies as well. Took it to work today, and what a difference!

This buggy is nimble and quick. It is the same engine, literally, as was in the Super beetle. But what a difference! Sure is fun!

Now I need to do some sanding an paint. I need some 235/75R15's. Hope to find 2 cheap. Bugzylla has some new ones I might buy, but the budget's thin. Anyone have a couple they want to part with?

Hi again, Today I welded in my new shock towers, and started gussets I hope to have time tomorrow put in the new adjusters. Then it will be time to figure out my suspension stops. This more fun than I thought it would be. Thanks again for all of your advice. Mufasa

Well, since I have been unable to sell my baja, I decided to keep it. So, I installed a pair of KCs on the roof, installed the windshield and rear glass with new rubbers, painted the nerf bars and got the left one mounted. I would have gotten the right side mounted too, but found the old bolts are broken off in the bug. Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!!

BTW, I hate installing the glass! I broke the original windshield while installing the new seal and had to get a new one at BAP today. Bummer...

Next, I will get the brakes working, wire in the KCs, weld tail light mounting brakets to the rear cage, install tail lights, weld in rear floor patch panels and re-wire the beast. Oh, I still need to get a pair of headlights mounted & wired up.

Jake

Well last night I took the No-Name center to work and ran a scotch brite wheel inside the manifold's carb base thoat(For lack of proper name).
Then washed it out by running a rag through it in the wash tank and blowing it out.
Today after lunch I begin the wrenching on the Bug.

Just recently decided to Baja my 59 sedan. I've had the body off the pan for quite a while. The fenders are off...it's basically a shell. I put the front fenders on the rear with just a couple of bolts, marked where I think I need to cut. Started doing some sanding to clean up some dings..... I don't get as much time to work on MY projects as I do with others....if you know what I mean.
