I've always loved the look since I was a little kid. You just don't ever see them anymore. Am I crazy, or does anyone else have a roof scoop fettish?

Oh yeah. I forgot that some Californian with a roof scoop fetish hooked me up with a bitchin' roof rack, so I'd still be out on the roof scoop. Laughing

That's a UPCOMING project! Gotta get the damn car off blocks and back on wheels first. I also need to fabricate some gutter mounts for the rack, get it set up like I want it (lights, gas can mount, tire mount maybe, etc.), and THEN it goes to powdercoat.

And one MORE reason I couldn't have one- it'd make the car too tall to fit inside my toyhauler. Can't have that!

Or the new one. Very Happy
Theres a new Battle Star Galactica complete with some Cylon "hotties" along with the old warriors.

Leatherneck,
That is one nice paint job! Got me re-thinking my paint scheme. Guess not. I'm no painter so I guess I'll stay with some thing simple.
Sure made me think tho..

I thought mounting a scoop with an oil cooler on the roof was a no-no,,, in case of rollover, you would be screwed.

If you roll, there'll be a lot more to worry about than the damn roof scoop. How much Bondo and paint can you buy for $150.00?

Lovin' it.

I'd love to meet the first guy ever that decided to put a roof scoop on his baja. I bet he got some REALLY strange looks!

In fact, I'd love to meet the first guy who cut the ass end off his bug and called it a baja for that matter! I bet he got even weirder looks!

...like, for instance, being "x" miles from nowhere with your engine oil all over the desert, and a smashed leaking oil cooler.

I can drive out with a crushed roof and crushed pride...not a crushed oil cooler!

You are, of course, correct. I always have a buddy along, but sometimes just one car.

Well, most of the time, actually!

dude its not that i dont understand your point of view (doesnt make it right) but if your both in the same car with the same bad mojo (ie realy bad roll... ect...) then your both subjected to the same forces and potentially inable to help each other more less yourself.

thats why rule one has always been at least two people (not only men) with two cars, suvs, bugs, rail, quads...ect...

ive been there i was fortunate enought to walk my broken but back (long walk with a broken arm) i wont go alone again and i would hope that noone does.

i rank having a person with you (in another car) as high as having a good cage and first aid kit! you never know when your life might be the topic of conversation!

i know thats just my opinion but its not like im talking out of my ass!

yeah
i see your point.
i guess i have to agree it is a good idea. but if your not going on nothing to bad or anything that your not going to be on nothing big or bad.
i think you would be good with ur self and someone else

They look "C Cool Cool L" and do the job...

But, out here we have these things called trees...
They have branches that love to eat anything that sticks up above the roof...

Talked to a couple of guys last Summer coming out of the woods one with his Baja "Camouflaged" with branches and leaves...

His Roof Light bar was hanging by the light wires and the roof scoop hanging by the oil cooler lines (thank fully Not Leaking).
He said he was following his buddy's Baja (without Overhead Stuff)...AND.....
What Da F#@%* ......Oops.... D@!... She-It .... Grrrrrrr

I'm guessing he said something like that... I know I would...

So, the moral of the story ... it doesn't take a roll over to screw up a roof scoop..

How high are those things anyway? I've never measured the height ... I don't know if I could get my Baja in the garage with one mounted on top..

That's about the first time I ever heard a logical argument against them. Makes sense! I still love 'em.

Look close at that baja and it has a "A" arm set up, or what looks like one.

if you were crafty, you could bend and weld 2 maybe half inch tubes to come up and above the scoop to take the impact of a blow and give it an angle to guide the object up and over. SOunds like more effort then most would be willing to put in though. for a roof scoop but thats just me. I might try it if i didn't take mine off lol.
