I was wondering if anybody has any experience with having items powder coated? I'm thinking of having my shroud and some other items done, but I have no idea what I should expect to pay. I really hate going in blind and not having a clue. Can someone give me a heads up? I'm thinking of getting the 9pc Scat shroud kit, fan shroud, cyl. covers, dog house tins, and probably the alt stand done. Not sure about anything else yet. Let me know, if you can. Oh, I do realize prices are not the same everywhere. but a general idea will help. Thanks!

Call Dougs Bugs & Bunnies, they have powder coated shrouds in stock and they can also do yours. From what I remember it was fairly reasonable. I think I can also get Scat powder coated shrouds.

I've found them a few places, but I was looking for a different color. We have a bunch of PC places locally, I was just wondering about the cost? I guess I'll have to make some calls. Thanks

typically, you'll get hit with a "set-up" fee for each different color you want. If you're doing all one color, the price should end up being reasonable. I had a beam done (hammered finish- grey), front trailing arms (gloss black), and some odds/ends I think. Was less than $200 IIRC for all of it.

Also depends on what finish is currently on the parts. Are they chrome or powdercoated already? If so, it's more to prep them. If they're just painted now or raw metal, that's the easiest to get ready.

I have an oven in my backyard (kitchen oven-older one) and a Hot Coat setup with several different colors, so I've both paid to have stuff done (that's too big for my oven) and actually coated some stuff myself.

Good luck with the search! Let us know how it turns out! PIC!

That's another issue, If the cost is going to be too outrageous, I probably should buy a small system. I was going to be doing all one color, never painted, so I don't think it'll be to bad. With the cost of the econo systems getting more and more reasonable, it's very tempting just to get one and have a go at it. I've actually heard some decent reports from the Eastwood Hotcoat system. If that's what your using, how are your results? I just would have to make sure I find an over that'll fit a shroud in it?

That's the kit I've been using for a few years now. I restored an old Yamaha Tri-Z 250 three-wheeler, and did many of the small parts on that project myself, both steel and aluminum. I've had mixed results, mostly very good, and I don't blame any of the problems I've had on the equipment, but my own lack of proper preparation.

Yes, the size of your projects will be limited mainly by oven size. A buddy and I had considered taking a flammable paint storage cabinet (insulated) and gutting a couple of ovens by removing the thermostats and elements, and making our own full-size curing oven, but of course never got around to it.

JUST MAKE SURE you never prepare food in an oven after it has been used for powdercoating.

Soo Tony, can you fit a shroud in your oven? How much would you charge for a shroud, upper tins, small deflectors and an alt stand? All one color if a person purchases the product.

Pizza oven! Problem is every time I'd warm it up, I'd smell pizza!
