So in the bottom right hand corner of this picture you can see how my exhaust has that little extra metal tube bolted on there. Every picture I have seen of after market exhausts dont appear to have a place for that to bolt onto. Am I mistaken? I dont want to drop a bunch of money on an exhaust and have it not work. I have just been looking at the standard 1 1/2 u-bend exhausts.

Thanks

Isn't that for the pre-heat for the carb/manifold?

Yes it is. If running dual carbs, you do not need this and the dual carb kits will usually come with a metal plate to cover them.

so will I need to buy a special exhaust set up for single carbs? The header freeloader posted looks like exactly what I need but I would prefer to buy the whole exhaust as one unit.

I might be mistaken, it seems like a fair number of them are set up for single carbs. thanks for the help and the link, they seem to have some good stuff.

You'll be hard-pressed to find an aftermarket off-road exhaust that is set up for intake heat. Most just run without it, although in cooler weather you'll wish you had it, as your engine will bog when you get intake icing. By "cooler" I mean about 60* and less.
