also another quick question about your fuse box... where did you get it at and does the whole fuse box power your ghia? and how hard was it to wire it up for vw use? pics of the completed fuse box would help greatly...

thanks

So, got my latest version of HotVWs Mag today. Thumbing through the pages and came upon the coverage of BugORama and guess what........there was the BajaGhia!!! page 59. Never thought I would have a car of mine make a magazine. I gotta say, feels pretty good. Actually, inspired me to do a little work on it. It's been sitting in the garage ever since the show, just waiting for me to do some final touches on it. Took the front end off and replaced the fuel sender. Next I need to address the steering.

Sweet!
I subscribed to HotVW before I moved to NC. Just waiting to get a permanent address to sign up again. I will have to go find a copy so I can check out your ride, even tho I've watched it's progress here. What month is it in?
Again, congrat's!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Been away for a bit, been pretty busy at work, and way to hot to work in the garage.

The Ghia is going through a couple minor adjustments. Got a new rack for the front end (Saco) so in the process of getting that put on along with a dampner. As I mentioned before, the steering on this thing was pure EVIL. This should help. Also working on finishing up a bit of wiring and misc little things that I didn't get to before. Also have plans for a turbo later this fall. Will keep you posted.

Do you have any good pics or advice on mounting the pedals? I have CNC setup and the guy I purchased the car from did a half A$$ job on mounting them. He gut a big ole hole in the front wall with the resevoirs half in and out. Makes filling them up a pain.

Sorry for the delayed response, I reinforced the firewall on either side, then drilled the mounting holes through it so I had a good surface on both sides, then I lengthened the push rods in the pedals to make up for the thickness of the firewall. Was a little tricky, but makes a pretty tidy install in the end. Plus, I don't have any trouble filling the res when I need to. The Challenge came when I need to make room for my big feet. Had to bend the pedals to get just the right position.

Spoke with him a the Lundes Vw show. He is busy revamping the steering on the Ghia. You may see him at Bug O Rama.

I clicked on this to see the updates, and for some reason, it took me to the very beginning of the thread. I hadn't read it for a while, so the refresher was good.

The model that BajaGhia used for inspiration early in the project was built by Doug Rogers of Desert Racing Models Yahoo group. I've been a member of that group since fairly early on. That group has since merged into another more general offroad model group. But Doug built a bunch of Bajas including a Thing. Like building a full scale Baja Ghia project, a great deal of his Bajas were scratchbuilt.
